Crafted entirely in Japan, the Shiramayu T-shirt reflects Tanuki’s dedication to quality from start to finish. Every stage—spinning, knitting, and finishing—takes place in Japan, ensuring full control over craftsmanship and consistency.

The 10 oz, 8-count yarn gives this tee a substantial, structured feel that stands apart from standard basics. Only minimal finishing is applied: just enough washing to remove machining oils while avoiding any bleaching or dyeing. This preserves the cotton’s natural state, resulting in subtle neps and tiny cotton flecks throughout the fabric. These variations are not imperfections; they are a celebration of authenticity and gentle processing. The fibers retain their natural strength, allowing the T-shirt to age beautifully and remain durable over time.

The name Shiramayu (白繭 – “White Cocoon”) refers to this unprocessed and undyed condition, emphasizing simplicity, material honesty, and a reduced environmental footprint.

Featuring the embroidered Tanuki “二” (Ni) logo on the shoulder—symbolizing the link between past and future—its red and blue stitching pays homage to the Japanese flag and the heritage of Japanese denim craftsmanship.

Fit Notes: Although Tanuki is a Japanese brand, we find that its tees fit more like Western sizes than traditional Japanese ones.
